Standard Consistency of cement
Objective
To determine the standard consistency of given sample of cement by Vicat apparatus.
Apparatus used:
Vicat apparatus with Vicat plunger, Vicat mould, Measuring jar, Weighing scale, Trowel etc.
Description Standard Consistency of Cement is defined as that consistency which will permit the Vicat plunger to a point 5mm to 7mm from the bottom of the Vicat mould.
Take cement in a pan and measure 300g of cement using the weighing scale.

Take water of about weight of dry cement a nd mix it thoroughly with the cement using trowel. The gauging time should not be more than 3 to 5 minutes.

Fill the Vicat mould resting upon non-porous plate.
Fix the 1mm2 Vicat plunger and the place the mould under the test setup.
Initial Reading = 40mm
Lower the plunger to touch the surface of the mould and release it quickly to sink into the paste.

Repeat the the sampe procedure for 30% and 32% of water
